Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari met with Singapore’s President Tharman Shanmugaratnam on Thursday to discuss India’s advancements in clean transportation, energy transition, and road infrastructure. The two leaders explored potential collaborations in sustainable aviation fuel, green hydrogen, and ammonia.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Gadkari wrote, “Delighted to meet the President of Singapore, Mr. @Tharman_S, once again. I shared with him India’s recent advancements in clean transportation, energy transition, and road infrastructure. We agreed to explore further collaboration in sustainable aviation fuel, green hydrogen, and ammonia. His vision and foresight continue to be truly inspiring.”
President Tharman also engaged with other Indian leaders during his state visit to India from January 14–18. He held discussions with Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on enhancing bilateral ties across various sectors for mutual prosperity. Additionally, he met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to discuss a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with a focus on fintech and digital technologies.
The visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Singapore. During a landmark event in New Delhi, President Droupadi Murmu and President Tharman unveiled a special logo symbolizing the enduring relationship between the two nations. The logo features elements from the national symbols of both countries, including India’s lotus and Singapore’s orchid, with colors from their respective flags. The number “60” prominently marks this milestone in their bilateral history.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met President Tharman to discuss strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Their talks focused on cooperation in key areas such as semiconductors, digitalization, skilling, and connectivity, as well as industry, infrastructure, and cultural exchanges.
Over the years, India and Singapore have expanded their collaboration to include advanced manufacturing, healthcare, sustainability, digitization, and education. Singapore remains a vital partner in India’s Act East Policy and Indo-Pacific strategy.
To celebrate the 60th anniversary, a series of commemorative events will be held throughout 2025, highlighting the enduring partnership and shared vision of the two nations.
